Hermès Birkin resale value in 2026: Birkin 25 and 30, Kelly and Mini Kelly

Everyone quotes the same line about Birkins doubling in value. We wanted to see what resellers are actually asking this month, bag by bag, so on 23 Oct 2026 we read every live listing on Fashionphile and Rebag for five Hermès bags and kept only the exact match: same model, same size, same leather. That left 257 listings. The short version is that the small bags are where the premium lives, and the Birkin 30 is closer to retail than most people assume.

How much is a Birkin worth on the resale market?

Here is the whole read. Retail is the latest US boutique price we can source for each bag, mostly from Sotheby's published 2026 tables, because Hermès does not put Birkin or Kelly prices online. Resale is the asking price on live pre-owned listings, in US dollars, on 23 Oct 2026.

Birkin 25 vs Birkin 30: which has better resale value?

The 25, and by a distance. A Birkin 25 in Togo costs $1,400 less than a 30 at the boutique ($13,500 against $14,900). On the resale sites the order flips: the median 25 asks $28,930, about $8,100 more than the median 30 at $20,822.

That is a 2.1× multiple on the 25 against 1.4× on the 30. Not one of the 75 Birkin 25 listings was priced under retail. 4 of the 128 Birkin 30s were, the cheapest a very good-condition bag at $13,250.

Our read of it: the 30 is simply easier to get. There are more of them in circulation (we found 128 exact matches against 75 for the 25), and the buyers who will pay almost anything to skip the boutique queue mostly want the smaller bag right now. If you want a Birkin to carry rather than to flip, the 30 is the one where the secondary market is reasonable.

Kelly resale value: Kelly 25 vs Kelly 28

The same pattern shows up on the Kelly, a little softer. The Kelly 25 Retourne in Togo (US retail $13,700, Jan 2026) had a median ask of $22,172, +62% over retail, across 16 listings. The Kelly 28 Sellier in Epsom ($14,400) sat at $19,272, +34%, also across 16.

Sixteen listings each is a thin sample, and every one came from Fashionphile, since none of Rebag's listings matched our rules for these two. Treat the Kelly figures as a snapshot. They are still useful for one thing: the Kelly 28 is the only bag here besides the Birkin 30 with a listing under retail ($12,995).

Why does the Mini Kelly resell for almost three times retail?

The Mini Kelly 20 (Kelly II Mini, Sellier, Epsom) is the outlier. Its US retail price is the lowest of the five at $11,400 (Jan 2026). Its median ask was the highest: $32,972, or 2.9× retail. The cheapest of the 22 listings, $25,995, was still +128% over.

We can't see how many Hermès makes. What we can see is that the cheapest one on offer costs more than twice its boutique price. At these asks you are paying for the queue, not for leather and stitching. That is fine if you know it going in.

Does condition change a Birkin's resale value?

Less than you would think, and not always in order. Grades are the reseller's own words, so they don't line up perfectly across sites, but within the Birkin 25 read the bags graded pristine (8 listings) had a median ask of $33,705, Fashionphile's giftable grade (15) $32,500, and very good (9) $23,500. So the gap between a near-new 25 and a visibly used one is roughly $10,200, and even the used one is well over retail.

On the Birkin 30 the spread is tighter: $21,995 for excellent (43) against $18,995 for very good (27). Colour seems to matter as much as wear. The four dearest Birkin 25s were etoupe, gold and black; the four cheapest were Rouge Pivoine, Anemone, Rubis and Bleu Electrique. The Birkin 30 list runs the same way, with noir and browns at the top and Rose Jaipur and Rouge Garance at the bottom.

Sotheby's put pristine Birkin 25 and 30 bags at roughly $28,000 to $30,000, a "secondary market premium of 2.4x retail", in an article updated for the January 2026 prices (Sotheby’s). Our all-condition median for the 25 is 2.1×, which is about where you'd expect once used bags are mixed in. For the 30 it does not: across every grade it is 1.4×.

Is a Birkin still a good investment in 2026?

If you were offered one at the boutique, it is hard to lose money. Even the Birkin 30, the weakest bag here, has a median ask +40% over retail. Retail itself has climbed: the Birkin 25 Togo went from $9,400 in 2016 to $13,500 in 2026, 44% in ten years, and the 30 from $10,900 to $14,900. Hermès raised US prices twice in 2025 alone.

Buying on the secondary market as an investment is another thing. You pay the reseller's margin going in and you take a dealer's offer coming out, and these are asking prices, so the true sale prices sit somewhat lower. Paying $28,930 for a Birkin 25 today is a bet that the queue stays as long as it is now. We wouldn't call that investing. We'd call it buying a bag you love at the going rate.

One honest caveat: retail figures for Hermès come from auction-house tables rather than the brand, since Hermès does not publish them. We say which source each one comes from on the item pages.

How we counted

For each bag we read every live listing on Fashionphile and Rebag on 23 Oct 2026 and kept it only if the reseller's own title and details named the exact model, size and leather. Anything two-tone, special order, Touch or Verso was dropped, as was any other leather, so a Birkin 25 in Epsom does not get counted with Togo. Every listing is linked from the bag's page. The method is on our methodology page, and the wider brand picture is on the resale value ranking.

Questions

How much is a Birkin worth on the resale market in 2026?

On 23 Oct 2026 the 75 Birkin 25 Togo listings we read on Fashionphile and Rebag asked $17,165 to $39,995, median $28,930. The 128 Birkin 30 Togo listings asked $13,250 to $33,625, median $20,822. These are asking prices, not completed sales.

Does a Birkin sell for more than retail?

Usually, yes. The median Birkin 25 Togo ask was 2.1× its 2026 US retail price of $13,500, and none of the 75 listings was below retail. The Birkin 30 is weaker: median +40% over retail, with 4 of 128 listings under it.

Which Hermès bag holds its value best?

Of the five we track, the Mini Kelly 20 in Epsom: a median ask of $32,972 against a US retail price of $11,400 (Jan 2026), or 2.9× retail, across 22 listings read 23 Oct 2026.

Is a Birkin a good investment?

It is a good store of value if you got it at retail. Retail itself rose 44% for the Birkin 25 Togo between 2016 ($9,400) and 2026 ($13,500). Buying on the secondary market at today's asks and expecting a profit is a different bet, and the Birkin 30 numbers show it can go the other way.
