The nickname is literal. In 1955, the year Vacheron Constantin turned 200, it presented reference 6087, a chronograph whose lugs swell out of the case and taper to points like a cow's horns. It was also the house's first water-resistant chronograph, with a screwed caseback and a soft-iron cage around its hand-wound calibre 492, a column-wheel movement built on a Valjoux base. Hodinkee puts production at 36 pieces: 26 in yellow gold, eight in pink gold and two in platinum. Vacheron brought the shape back in its Historiques collection in 2015, first in platinum as ref. 5000H/000P-B058, and pink gold followed in 2016. The case grew from 35 mm to 38.5 mm but stayed slim at 10.9 mm. Inside is calibre 1142, a manual-winding column-wheel chronograph based on the Lemania 2310, with a 30-minute counter, 48 hours of reserve and the Hallmark of Geneva. This pink gold reference sets a blue tachymeter around a silver-toned dial, with small seconds at 9 o'clock. The lugs are the reason to buy it. Everything else is there to keep it a dress chronograph, not a sports watch.
